Thousander Club Update: March 20th

For this week’s Thousander Club update:

Game Hours: 53 / 1000
Game Ideas: 156 / 1000

Target: 168

I worked a few hours, but spent quite a bit of time writing a game review and managing other responsibilities. I broke the 5% mark, however, and it feels good.

I’m falling behind in game ideas. I’ll need to catch up this week.

EDIT: You know, I should also add that I was sick for a couple of days. I try not to let myself make excuses, and sometimes I forget that some things aren’t actually my fault.

Cool you’re catching up, but i’m starting to pick up the slack again.

By the way, do you ever sit down and think up ideas for an hour or so, or do you just wait till one comes to you before you add it to your 1000 ideas?

I think (and i’m not trying to brag) I could come up with a ton ideas (as I do already) if I actually tried. Of course the thing I hate about always having ideas is the fact I can’t implement them all, so I get bugged about it. So i’m trying to not have any more ideas for a while 😉

Keith: I do both. Most of the time I think of something and write it down, but I can sit down for a minute or two and come up with a handful of ideas easily.

My goal isn’t to implement them so much as have a ton of them to pick and choose from. If I have 1,000 ideas, not all of them have to be good. If I pick the best out of the 1,000, it will have a good chance of being an order of magnitude better than if I had only ten to choose from. I’d rather choose from a handful of good ideas at the end of this year than hope that a handful of ideas holds at least one good one.

They say that ideas are a dime a dozen. If that’s true, then it shouldn’t be too hard to come up with 1,000 ideas in a year. Some days I get three or four ideas easily first thing in the morning when I don’t even try. Other days, I realize that I haven’t met my daily quota and so I sit down to concentrate on writing out a few.

Some people say that they aren’t creative, but that’s just because they don’t practice. Maybe 1,000 hours of creative thinking will change their minds. B-)
